Morgan Haber will hit the track at Phillip Island next week in the new BMW M6 GT3, making it now the 2nd in the country.
Ryan McLeod’s newly formed MARC GT team will run the new BMW M6 GT3, which is in the final stages of its preparation ahead of its test days at Queensland Raceway tomorrow and Friday.
Joining Morgan for the endurance rounds will be Jake Camilleri, who was also Haber’s team-mate at the Bathurst 12 Hour earlier this year in which they won their class.
Haber tested the factory-supported BMW Team SRM M6 GT3 at Winton back in February, says he is excited to kick-start his new programme with a brand new car.
“I was really impressed with the car when I tested it for the first time,” said Haber.
“BMW know what they’re doing – just look at the success they had with the Z4 GT3.
“I was quite surprised when I drove the M6 GT3 for the first time; it was very different to anything else I’d driven before, but very nice to drive. It was comfortable right from the word go, very predictable and very balanced. I still haven’t done a lot of laps, but I can tell it’s a good car.
“I’m looking forward to getting it on track tomorrow at Queensland Raceway and putting it through its paces. We have a heavy race programme at Phillip Island with both sprint and endurance races, so we’ll need to be at the top of our game if we want to come out and put on a good show right from our first round.”
Haber, 22, has extensive experience in GT and touring cars. The Mackay local started out in karting, before moving to the Australian Swift Racing Series following which he progressed to the V8 Supercars development series in 2013 and 2014. Last year he moved to the Australian GT Championship with Erebus Motorsport but elected to move on in December and see what offers were forthcoming in the off-season. With Marc Cars emergence into GT racing, it was a natural progression for Haber to join the team and race the BMW M6 GT3.
Marc GT will start their 2016 racing campaign at Phillip Island and will contend the remaining races at Townsville, Sydney Motorsport Park, Hampton Downs (NZ), and Highlands (NZ).
